So here we go, my very first blog post! I've been thinking about blogging for a while, seeing how my Instagram posts sometimes got a little out of hand with way too much text. I guess I just have a lot on my mind, and maybe blogging is a better media for all those words. It took me a while to get serious about making the blog though, because honestly, the thought "what will people think" hit me. In Denmark it's (sadly) a part of our culture not to think yourself too important or special, and I immediately thought of people thinking "who is she to be making a blog" and "does she honestly expect anybody to read it?". We call it the Law of Jante, and it has 10 rules:
Rule number 1: You're not to think you are anything special.
Rule number 2: You're not to think you are as good as we are.
Rule number 3: You're not to think you are smarter than we are.
Rule number 4: You're not to imagine yourself better than we are.
Rule number 5: You're not to think you know more than we do.
Rule number 6: You're not to think you are more important than we are.
Rule number 7: You're not to think you are good at anything.
Rule number 8: You're not to laugh at us.
Rule number 9 :You're not to think anyone cares about you.
Rule number 10: You're not to think you can teach us anything.
The rules were originally written down as a satirical criticism of the Danish society in the 1930's, but I'm sad to say the mentality is still here, and it gets me. It is also the law of Jante that makes me sometimes not wear my favourite shoes out, because of the fear of being "overdressed" and people thinking I'm "too much". Even while writing this I'm getting second thoughts about publishing the blog, but I'm gonna do it anyways. F... you Jante (which is a fictional small Danish town btw, I googled it). Maybe no one will read my blog, but so what? Nobody died or got hurt while making it, and I get to express some feelings, show off some pretty shoes (that totally deserve it) and procrastinate studying, all at the same time. And if someone get's anything out of reading it too, that's just an extra bonus to it all.
Welcome to my blog.
Love Janne
